General Purpose Classrooms


General purpose classrooms are scheduled by the Office of the Registrar, Room Scheduling (475-7600) and are used by departments throughout the university.  Departments within the College of Natural Sciences may have scheduling priority in certain rooms.  When not in use for classes and exams, these rooms are available for special events.

    theater = rows of seats attached to one another and to floor; flip-up writing surfaces
    fxd desks = individual desks attached to floor, each with its own writing surface
    mov desks = individual desks not attached to floor, each with its own writing surface
    cont ws (continuous writing surface)=long tables attached to floor; seats attached to table pedestals

Seating: Num
    This is the observed number of seats excluding wheelchair spaces.  For movable desk rooms,
    this is the target number of desks.  Continuous writing surface rooms usually have movable chairs
    that may be used at the wheelchair spaces.

Technology: Date
    The first semester the classroom was available with standardized A/V technology.

Technology: Proj
      The number of projectors and their location (C = ceiling mounted, B = projection booth,
      R = rear projection)

Floor Design
    flat = one level: entire room is one flat surface
    sloped = one level: floor under audience slopes from back to front
    stage = raised stage: audience seating is on flat surface; stage is at different level
    tiered = more than two levels: audience seating is on many levels; stage is on separate level

ADA Accessibility: Audience
    Specifies which parts of the audience can be reached from the entrance without stepping up or down.

ADA Accessibility: Presenter
    yes = the front of the room can be reached from the entrance without stepping up or down.
    Otherwise, any impediments between the entrance and the front of the room are listed.

ADA Accessibility: Wchair
    Number of places in the audience that can accommodate wheelchairs.
    unlim = rooms with movable desks can theoretically accommodate any number of wheelchairs
    0 = no special provisions for wheelchairs
