About the college logo

The College of Natural Sciences communications office has developed a new college logo for use in print and online materials.

Because print and online materials are the first contact that many people have with the college, it’s important that these materials identify the college in a consistent way.

Below you will find a description of the logo and guidelines for its use. These guidelines apply to all communications from the Dean’s Office in the College of Natural Sciences. Departments and organized research units within the college are encouraged to use the college logo where they feel it’s appropriate. We are discontinuing the use of the college “seal.”

Description

The College of Natural Sciences logo consists of a mark and a wordmark. The mark is an abstraction based on the mathematical ideas of the Golden Ratio and Golden Spiral, which are represented throughout nature and the arts. Look for the Golden Spiral in the swirling arms of galaxies and hurricanes and the whorls of flowers and mollusk shells.

Using the logo

The mark should rarely be used without the wordmark or some other college identifier (e.g. the college URL, cns.utexas.edu). The wordmark, however, can be used without the mark. While the horizontal version of the logo is preferred, the vertical logo will work better in some cases. Please remember that the college is part of the larger university. In general, only the endorsed logo (with the words The University of Texas at Austin) should be used (UT visual guidelines).

If you would like to use the college logo in your publications, please contact David Steadman (david.steadman@cns.utexas.edu) to obtain a version suitable for print. (Please do not grab the logo off of this website. The quality is not appropriate for print publications.)
