The College of Natural Sciences Communications group helps college faculty and staff provide science-based information to those who need it and works to promote public awareness of college research, teaching and outreach programs.
The office manages college publications and news relations and serves as an advisor on web and other communications projects as needed. We work closely with the Dean, the university’s Office of Public Affairs, Natural Sciences departmental and research unit communications professionals, and other communicators across campus.
The communications office helps maintain consistency in college communications through the use of college logos, wordmarks and language.
Please contact the director,
Lee Clippard, if you have any questions regarding communications related to the college.
Communications services
Communications offers the following services to the college:
Media relations – We can help increase the public awareness of your research project, educational program or event through writing and distributing news releases to the appropriate media. We foster and maintain relationships with journalists locally, nationally and around the world. Our news release service is available for the entire college.
Publications – We specialize in communicating complex science topics to a general audience through news releases and college and university publications. We currently produce the following major publications for the college
: Focus on Science, our biannual college magazine, and
Insight, a newsletter about the undergraduate experience in natural sciences. We also write and deliver the email-based Natural Sciences e-Newsletter and write stories for
On Campus, the college website and feature stories for the university homepage,
www.utexas.edu.
Graphic design – Our professional graphic design services mix innovative design with science content. We design posters, brochures, logos, and more for various college activities and programs. Our design services are offered to programs within the Dean’s Office only.
Communications guidelines
It’s important to maintain consistency in communications. If you are working on your own communications project (flyers, t-shirts, mugs, posters, websites, etc.) please follow the following guidelines:
• Always use the new college logo and wordmark (please limit the use of the old college seal).
• At minimum, all College of Natural Sciences communications should include some reference to the college and/or The University of Texas at Austin. Please refer to our
Logo Guidelines and the
university’s standards.
