Texas Interdisciplinary Plan

Students sitting on stepsThe Texas Interdisciplinary Plan is a collection of selective academic programs at The University of Texas at Austin that has operated jointly out of the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences since 2002. TIP’s mission is to transform the learning experience for its students by creating small academic communities that promote academic excellence and leadership development. Programs housed in TIP include TIP Scholars, the TIP Mentor Academy, and the Texas IP.

TIP Scholars

TIP Scholars participate in a highly selective academic program for first-year students in the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Natural Sciences. TIP Scholars are students who take a rigorous course of study, an introduction to critical thinking, and benefit from a unique blend of academic opportunities, including a small college experience.

TIP Mentor Academy

The TIP Mentor Academy consists of over 65 trained undergraduate students from The College of Liberal Arts and The College of Natural Sciences. Their goal is to enhance academic excellence and to encourage a successful transition to the University of Texas at Austin for our TIP Scholars.

The Texas IP

Created in 2005 for students in the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Natural Sciences, the Texas IP is a six-course interdisciplinary plan rooted in a critical thinking and writing foundation and crowned by a capstone project in the senior year.
